Advisor, CEO Oceanic Partners

Tim Sullivan

Tim is the CEO of Oceanic Partners and a recognized pioneer in the evolution of modern secondary markets. For more than two decades, he has built liquidity solutions for private-market shareholders and helped shape the infrastructure behind late-stage private investing.

Tim began his career in investment banking at Susquehanna. After the 1999–2000 IPO downturn, he identified the growing need for shareholder liquidity—a need that accelerated during the 2008 recession. Operating from his garage in San Francisco, he executed secondary transactions for emerging companies including Facebook, Tesla, Twitter, SolarCity, and Etsy.

In 2009, Tim became President and co-founder of SharesPost, where he built the firm’s sales, trading, and operational systems. His leadership during this period is widely regarded as foundational to today’s secondary-market ecosystem.

In 2014, he founded Oceanic Partners, an investment firm focused on late-stage private companies. Under his leadership, Oceanic has invested in companies such as Palantir, Airbnb, SpaceX, DocuSign, and Unity, achieving a top-decile realized net IRR of 32%.

Tim’s leadership roles include:

  • Founder & CEO, Oceanic Partners (2014–present)
  • President & Co-Founder, SharesPost (2009–2012)
  • Investment Banking, Susquehanna International Group (early career)

Tim holds a BA from the University of Colorado Boulder.
